Snemand, in Danish, means Snowman. Quite appropriate for the last month of the year! The font is all caps, but upper and lower case letters can be interchanged and it includes alternates for all lower case letters. Snemand is a very legible font and has that great ‘unevenish’ look - making it a great typeface for packaging and books.

The Belgian native became famous in France, where he painted floral watercolors for both Marie Antoinnette and Empress Josephine. But what cemented his legacy was his perfection of a stipple engraving technique that brought his art to the masses. Botanical Scribe is modeled after the neat, cursive hand-inscribed legends on these antique prints. Because it simulates handlettering, the font retains a warm, organic quality not seen in fancy modern scripts while remaining both elegant and legible. (Its many ligatures lends to this authenticity.) Good for formal invitations or historical simulations.

After my son was born, I found myself reading him a lot of books. A LOT of books.

Some were good, some were great, but I found myself wanting to develop something using my skills and interests to make something that only I could make. In short, I realized my son needed to be indoctrinated--I mean, introduced into the wonderfully wild world of fonts.

So, I set about to make a board book to teach about typography, called “The Clothes Letters Wear.” You can learn more about the book here, and pledge to receive a copy on Kickstarter. I've made the captivating illustrations bright and colorful, and the use of different letter forms makes for a fascinating read to delight ages young and young at heart.

And, as an added bonus, this children’s book has a custom designed font. I'am always looking for an excuse to design a new font, and this book created the perfect alibi.

The idea to add an original sans-serif to the Tyfa’s Roman got Jan Solpera at teatime in Domanín during the “typographic weather” at the end of October 2013. We started to work on this interesting task immediately. We already had something to build upon: Týfa left his opinion on sans-serif type in several versions of Juvenis, then Antikva itself offers a wide range of building blocks for a sans-serif alphabet. The proportions are chosen so that the new sans would combine well with the favourite Academica. It has five weights with italics, and small caps, Cyrillics, numerals, ligatures and other OpenType features coincide exactly with the Tyfa Antikva. It can be used everywhere you need an extremely readable and stylish font.
